jQuery/JavaScript integration

Is there a way and associated examples to integrate jspresso with jQuery and/or JavaScript code in general

From my limited reading of

From my limited reading of the forums here, I think the answer is probably "maybe".. I believe Vincent's vision of back-ends for rendering Jspresso UI's is that all UI features should be able to map across the spectrum of available backends (Flex, Qooxdoo, Swing) to ensure everything maps 1:1 if you will.. To that end, if JQuery and JQueryUI map directly then it may be do-able.. However, I'm not sure whether there's sufficient interest in doing it -- of course I'm sure if you wrote the new add-on(s), he wouldn't mind incorporating it possibly.. Of course I'm not Vincent and don't know the architecture that well yet and may be completely wrong so it's best to wait for Vincent's formal reply.. Foot in mouth

Type of integration ?

Hi,

The answer definitely depends on the type of "integration" you are looking for. Could you be more precise ?

  • Would you like to interface Jspressso with a custom front-end ? We've already integrated Jspresso backends with PHP and native iOS frontends through the use of REST webservices. You are free to develop and/or reuse the exact UI you want and still benefit from a powerful and maintainable Jspresso backend (along with a back-office Jspresso-based UI for instance).
  • Would you like a complete, JQuery-based, new UI engine ? Possible but expensive and what would be the advantages against qooxdoo ?
  • Would you like to customize the existing qooxdoo frontend to complement it with some custom code (either new components or extra JS code) ? Qooxdoo is open and can be easily extended (with other type of JS components if needed I suppose), as can the Jspresso/qooxdoo UI engine. But this requires some knowledge that is not documented (yet). We are working on a daily basis with customers to integrate custom UI components (either home-made or bought off the shelf), but as of now they are rather flex ones.

These are just some thoughts and you miht want to tell us more about what you want to achieve.

Best,

Vincent

Thanks for the replies and

Thanks for the replies and here are some additional infos

In fact I already have a ~200 lines long UI skeleton that I wrote in 1/2 day when testing the play framework and which uses jQuery + UI + some extensions

and found it very easy to understand use and prototype but I still need to figure out the Java integration part (both for play and jspresso) cf attached file

Don't know much about qooxdoo but as mentioned jQuery with all its extensions and UI parts seems really powerfull and install base is impressive

Thanks for your advices and best regards

Olivier
